Day One
Off we go! Finally it has started. My first impressions are a bit mixed, I will try to explain…
Just after I enter the main lobby I found some fellows I knew from college. Actually I have a good relationship with any of the three, so it is comfortable to have them around. When imagining my class I was thinking of not having anyone I knew before, and I was seeing that as on the positive side.
The Executive MBA class has 74 students. I find that maybe a little too much people. Mentally I targeted 70 folks as the high limit, 50 as ideal.
I hope I am wrong. After all with more people present it’s more likely to find interesting individuals. But this logic could be applied to a 10 000 students class, so I guess it’s “sophism”.
The first class was attended by more than 100 students because this 1st module is attended by all EGP MBA programs. It was a bit crowded and I must admit I was somewhat uncomfortable both in physical and mental terms.
It is not very easy to interact with the teacher, in this case Economics 101 Prof. Daniel Bessa. And that happens not because of him – he’s a good fellow – but I just have not yet found the right tone. I am afraid of being either too aggressive in my comments, pretentious, too slow or sound ridiculous! But I guess that is one of the parts of the MBA purpose, to learn how to “measure” and feel an audience, a meeting, a working group or even a class.
I am tired now and unexpectedly I feel a bit like a fish out of water…
